I´m going to Graz (Austria) in April 2011. In this travel I and my classmates will learn to speak better English and we will visit many places. This city has about 250.000 inhabitans and is located in the southeast of Austria, on the river Mur and about 189 kilometres from Viena. The oficial language is German.
Gastronomy is very especial. Seed of pumkin oil gives a hot taste to all the foods. The typical foods are goulash with spatzle and the brettljause, that is a dish with processed cold meat, cheeses, bread and wine. Other typical food are Schweinsbraten, wiener schnitzel, knodel, sachertorte, tafelspitz and kasnockn. The typical drinks are Puntigam beer, wine and liquours.
The city was called European capital of culture, because ir has many places of interest such as Herberstein palace, the Domkirche, the mausoleum of Fernando II, the town hall, the museum of Joanneu, and the old town.
The festivals aren´t regional, they celebrate national festivities. The first is the festival of the day of Epiphany, and it is on 6th January. The second is the festival of the National Day of Austria, ir is the Nationalfeirtag and it is on 26th October. And the last is the festival of the day of Saint Stephen (patron saint of the country) and it is on 26th December.
